THE DUCT TAPE HOUSE
It was at this very location at the top of the stairs that we first discovered that there were hardwood floors underneath the carpet!
However, we generally reserve our excitement about newly discovered hardwoods until we’ve had a chance to expose and inspect the entire floor system, so that we can confirm that they are in fact able to be brought back to life!
In this case, we were able to refinish the hardwood floors and they came out awesome. We also added a solid oak handrail and we stained it the same color as the floors.
Design Idea: As you can see all the bedrooms received new doors and we painted the attic access panels the same grey color to match the doors.
This served two functions, it not only makes the attic access panels aesthetically pleasing and catches your eye, but the darker color also makes them easier to maintain as the color will hide fingerprints much better than a lighter color.
